Synopsis: Giles has landed a job teaching at UC Sunnydale after defeating the Mayor and Buffy ends up, unknowingly, taking Giles' class. Surely all this extra time together won't affect their relationship, right?
A soft moan left Buffy as she stretched out in the bed that she knew was definitely not hers- she could tell by the feel of the sheets. Her eyes snapped open as the events of the previous night hit her, a groan echoing in the room as she dreaded the conversation that was bound to happen. She sat up in the bed and looked around the room, a soft smiling coming to her face when she saw a pile of folded clothes on the dresser.
She quickly walked over to the dresser and pulled on the sweatpants and t-shirt, quickly reading the note Giles had set on top of the pile. According to the note, she was stuck in his apartment for however long it took for her clothes to be washed and dried. Making sure she looked semi-decent, the Slayer slowly made her way down the stairs and into the kitchen. Giles was leaning against the counter as he ate an apple, his eyes focused on the floor.
“Hey,” Buffy said as she walked into the kitchen, leaning against the wall.
“Good morning,” he looked up and gave her a small smile. “I’d offer you breakfast, but I didn’t exactly cook anything.”
“It’s fine, I’m actually not that hungry.” She assured him. “Thanks for washing my clothes, Giles. You didn’t have to do that,”
“I had to do laundry anyways,” he explained as he took another bite from the apple. “I trust you slept well?”
“Yeah, I did.”
Silence settled on the two of them as they both recalled the night before, neither one knowing exactly what to say. Buffy was busy berating herself for not stopping when she should have that she completely missed what Giles had said.
“What? I wasn’t listening,” she gave him a sheepish smile. “Sorry.”
“I said I don’t want this to come between us.” He repeated, taking a step closer to her. “We’re both adults, and I’m fairly certain that we can moved past this. Of course, it shouldn’t happen again.”
“Right, because one night stands with your students isn’t really acceptable.”
“Not only that, but I tend to try not to sleep with my friends. Regardless if it’s a one night stand, or not.”
“Right.” Buffy hoped that her smile didn’t look too fake and that he hadn’t seen the hurt that had passed in her eyes. “Casual sex can really ruin a friendship,”
“I also wanted to say that I’m sorry,” he continued, rubbing the back of his neck. “I shouldn’t have behaved like that last night, nor should I have did what I had done. I tend to not think straight when I’ve had that much to drink, otherwise I wouldn’t have kissed you.”
“It’s fine, Giles. I wasn’t exactly sober either,” she lied, willing herself not tear up. “It was just sex- drunken sex between friends. As you said, we’re both adults and we both know what we did. I think our friendship is strong enough to survive this…hiccup. We’re good, Giles.”
“Good,” he smiled before pulling her into a brief hug.
“Can I just say though,” Buffy started as she followed him into the living room, sitting on the other side of the couch and facing him. “Last night was…wow. You were…just wow.”
They broke into a fit of laughter at her statement, Buffy hoping he didn’t notice how hurt she really was.

The sound of the door opening caused Buffy to open her eyes, a sigh leaving her lips when she saw that it was three in the afternoon. She had gotten back to her dorm a little after noon, changed into her pajamas and curled up in her bed. She glad that Willow hadn’t been in the dorm when she showed up- she hadn’t been in the mood to talk about last night. Actually, if she was being honest, she still wasn’t in the mood to talk about the night before. But as soon as the door had opened, Buffy knew she would have to tell Willow something.
“Hey, Buff.” The Wicca greeted as she flopped on to her bed, tilting her head to the side when she noticed her friend’s demeanor. “You okay?”
“Yeah, just a little tired.” She faked a small yawn before sitting up and leaning against the wall. “How was your night after you left?”
“It was fun. Oz got his birthday smoochies,” a slight blush appeared on the red head’s face even as she smiled. “What about you? Oz said you stayed at Giles’,”
“Yeah, I decided to help him clean up and then crashed.” She diverted her eyes out of habit, hoping Willow wouldn’t figure out what had happened.
“Anything else?” she asked as she stretched out on her bed.
“No, why?” she cringed at how forced her voice sounded.
There was a moment of silence as Willow studied her friend, knowing there was something she wasn’t saying. Narrowing her eyes, the red head continued to stare at her best friend.
“So…what did you and Giles get up to last night?” Willow asked again, pulling her Resolve Face.
“Nothing, we just…talked.” Buffy busied herself by picking at a loose thread on her comforter.
“About what? Because you and Giles seemed pretty cozy all last night, and…” at the blush that spread on the blonde’s face, Willow gasped and stared at her. “You and Giles had sex, didn’t you?!”
“I don’t wanna talk about it, Will.” Buffy groaned as she slid back under the covers, pulling the comforter up to her chin.
“This is big! This is great!” Willow gushed as she sat up, an excited spark in her eyes. “I mean, now there’s no single Scoobies! I have Oz, Xander has Anya and you have Giles. Now we can go on group dates, and…and…you and Giles are together, right?”
“It was a one night stand, Willow. He was drunk, I was…tipsy and it was just sex.” Buffy whispered, fighting back the tears that were quickly gathering in her eyes. “He doesn’t know that I have feelings for him, and he doesn’t have any for me that go beyond friendship.”
“Maybe he does, Buffy. Maybe he was just saying it was a one night stand because he thought that’s what you wanted to hear?”
Figuring she needed to fill her best friend in on some things, Buffy took a deep breath before launching into an quick explanation of the conversation she had with Giles about his one night stands a few months ago. Willow sat in silence when Buffy finished filling her in, a sympathetic expression on her face.
“Do you want me to do something to Giles? Because I’ll find a spell that could…could…could do something bad to him, if you want.” The red head offered, a small smile on her face when Buffy let out a small giggle.
“Thanks, Will, but it isn’t completely his fault.” She replied, sitting up again so she could have better eye contact with her friend. “I knew what would happen if I let it continue, I knew that I should have stopped him. But I didn’t, and this is what I get for being stupid.”
“Buffy, no…”
“It’s true, Will. I should have stopped and I didn’t because I figured that was my only chance,” Buffy sniffled, wiping at some of the tears that had fallen. “And I think a small part hoped that he would realize…something and…I was being stupid. And now I’ve got to deal with the consequences of seeing him and pretending that everything’s okay while he continues sleeping around…how am I supposed to face him when I have these memories of something I can never have?”
Not knowing what to say, Willow just moved to sit next to her friend and pulled her into a hug. Buffy clung to Willow just as she finally allowed herself to cry for the first time since she woke up in Giles’ bed alone.

“So, did we miss anything good after we left?” Xander asked as he sat next to Anya, handing her drink to her.
“No,” Buffy shook her head, laughing at the excited look on Willow’s face when The Dingoes took the stage. “I just cleaned up while Giles slept everything off.”
“I’m surprised he didn’t try to have sex with you,” Anya mused as she took a sip from her cup.
Buffy sputtered her drink, coughing as she tried to catch her breath while Xander just stared at his girlfriend. Willow started patting her friend on the back until Buffy was able to compose herself enough to talk.
“Why do you say that?” she asked, gratefully the lights in the Bronze were dim enough that no one could see her blush.
“He was hitting on you all night, add alcohol to it and that’s how friends end up giving each other orgasms.”
“Anya!” Xander groaned, covering his face with his hands. “Giles and Buffy don’t have that type of relationship, even with alcohol. One of them would stop even if they were in that type of situation, which would never happen.”
“It could, Xander. Giles wanted orgasms last night and…” Xander cut her off by dragging her on to the dance floor.
“I really wish Xander would teach her to think before she talks,” Willow grumbled as she looked over at Buffy. “You okay, Buffy?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just…” she shrugged when the words wouldn’t come. “I think it’ll take a while until I can control my emotions, but I’ll get there. I mean, I dealt with Angel losing his soul didn’t I?”
“Yeah, but…” Willow trailed off, not knowing how to word her thoughts.
“It’s not the same, I know.” Buffy finished for her as she gave a sad smile. “But that’s helping me deal right now, so pretend it makes sense?”
Willow nodded her head before suggesting they go dance.

“Not now,” Buffy muttered as her and Willow passed one of the bars near the campus.
Willow had opened her mouth to ask what Buffy meant when she saw Giles walking towards them. Taking a deep breath, the Slayer smiled just as Giles passed them.
“Buffy. Willow.” He greeted, a nervous smile on his face- he had no doubt that Willow knew all about the previous night.
“Hey, Giles.” Willow smiled. “Whatcha doing out so late?”
“I was um…clearing my head,” he answered, running a hand through his hair.
“Didn’t find anyone that would come home with you?” Buffy winced as she said it, wanting to take it back.
“Buffy!” Willow hissed as her head snapped to her left, glaring at her friend.
“No, I was just taking a walk tonight.” Giles replied, a question showing in his jade eyes. “Buffy, are you…”
“I gotta go patrol,” she cut him off as she slowly started walking backwards. “I’ll stop by after to give you the normal report. I’ll see you back at the dorm, Will.”
Before Giles or Willow could say anything, Buffy was gone.
“Willow, is Buffy alright?” he asked, concern etched on his face.
“Yeah,” Willow answered, knowing better than to say anything. “She’s just kinda tired. Anyways, I’m gonna go back to my dorm. Night, Giles!”
And just like that, Giles found himself standing in the middle of a sidewalk with nothing but his thoughts for company.
