Title: A Twist in My Story
Author: the_huffster
Pairing: Buffy/Giles
Rating: PG
Timeline: AU
Synopsis: After giving up his life as Ripper, Giles seizes the chance to live a normal life and doesn't return to the Council. But years later when he meets first grade teacher Buffy Summers, he wonders if it's possible to really escape Destiny.
Author's Note: I decided to mess around with the years and make Giles younger just so it will fit with how I have this fic planned out. So please bear with me on the messing with years/ages.

Author's Note: This is it. This fic is now complete and I wanna take this moment to thank everyone who has stuck with this story since the beginning, regardless if you reviewed or not. As long as you kept coming back, that's all that matters. So with this fic finished, that gives me more time to focus on the other fics I have going on. Thanks again, folks!

10 years later

“Are you worried that you’ll get sick too, Daddy?” green eyes looked up at his father as the five year old played with the stuffed puppy.

“I’ll be fine, Bentley.” Rupert assured his son as he ran his fingers through his son’s dark hair.

“How do you know?” he asked, his face twisted in curiosity.

“Don’t you know, B?” Addison said as she looked up from the book she was reading. “Dad’s like Superman,”

“Daddy’s not an alien!” Bentley countered as he sat up, glaring at his sister.

“That’s not what I meant,” the 15 year old laughed as she marked her place in her book. “I meant Dad can’t get hurt or sick. Well, he can but it never affects him.”

“Who says?”

“Nathan,” Addison replied, picking at a spot on the book’s cover. “He used to tell me that all the time when I was little.”

“Who used to tell him?” Bentley looked up at his father.

“My parents used to tell him that when he was younger,” Rupert explained as he pulled his youngest son on to him lap. “But you don’t have to worry about me getting sick. You just have an ear infection, and Addie is just getting over a small stomach bug.”

“There was a bug in her stomach?” the five year old’s eyes went wide as he looked from his sister to his father, his stuffed toy held close to his chest.

“No, I just meant that…”

“Mummy’s home!” Bentley shouted as he scrambled off his father’s lap and ran into the kitchen. “Hi Mummy!”

“There’s my little man!” Buffy grinned as she picked up her son, kissing the tip of his nose. “How’s you ear?”

“It hurts!” he pouted, cuddling close to his mother.

“Did Daddy not take care of you like he should have?”

Rupert’s mouth opened in shock as he looked at his daughter before he glared when he saw her trying to hold back her giggles. Figuring he needed to go defend himself, he got to his feet and made his way into the kitchen just in time to hear the continuation of the conversation.

“Go figures,” a dirty blonde 10 year old quipped as he walked into the kitchen, his backpack slung over his shoulder.

“Dad never takes care of us,” the eight year old boy joked, waving at his father. “Hi Dad!”

“You two aren’t off the hook,” Buffy sent a look at her two sons, ignoring the eldest’s protests.

“What did he do this time?” Rupert asked as he leaned against the kitchen counter, running his hand through his hair.

“David got himself sent to the principal’s office,” Buffy looked at her husband, an annoyed look in her hazel eyes. “Again.”

“What now?”

“They were picking on Taylor and no one was defending her,” David explained, rubbing the back of his neck in the same fashion his father did. “So I may have started a fight…”

Rupert just ran his hand over his face before sending his son a glare. Out of his five children, David managed to cause the most trouble wherever he went. The 10 year old spent a few more minutes defending his case before he finally mumbled about doing homework and dragged his backpack behind him on his way to the living room.

“David only did that ‘cause he loves Taylor!” Matt added, making his way to the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water.

“You know you’re not suppose to antagonize your brother, Matthew.” Rupert sighed, holding back his smile. “I’m assuming that’s why he’s in trouble?”

“Nailed it,” Buffy answered as she put Bentley down when he said he wanted to go back to the living room with Matt. “So, how were our sick kids?”

“Bentley and I watched cartoons and countless movies,” he recounted the day’s events, wrapping his arms around his wife when she walked up to him. “And Addison read all day. How was your day?”

“I deal with six year olds all day, how do you think it was?” they shared a laugh before he bent down and brushed his lips across hers. “Speaking of six year olds, where’s Rabbit?”

“You know he hates it when you call him that, Buffy.” Rupert chuckled as he held her closer.

“He does not,” Buffy replied.

“She’s right, Dad.” The 17 year old confirmed as he walked in from the garage, running his hand through his already messed up hair. “Only Mum’s allowed to call me that nowadays.”

The two parents shared a smile as Nathan walked into the living room, loudly announcing his arrival to his four siblings. After ten years of being married to their father, Buffy still found herself surprised that Nathan and Addison considered her their mother. They stood in the kitchen in silence until the blonde leaned back and looked up at her husband.

“You didn’t answer my question, mister.” She gently poked his chest.

“He had some sort of meeting for one of his after school clubs,” he rolled his eyes when she raised an eyebrow in question. “He’s a part of too many. I can’t keep up with him,”

Any response Buffy was going to give was cut off by a lour crash and Bentley crying, which caused the two to run into the living room. They took in the scene before them and sighed. Nathan was holding David and Matt apart while Bentley was laying on the floor as tears fell from his eyes, his hands gripping the back of his head. Rupert quickly picked up the five year old and held him as Buffy looked at his head, sighing with relief when she said it wasn’t anything more than a bump.

“What happened?” Rupert asked his children, looking at the three boys near the fireplace.

“We were wrestling and than David accidently hurt Matt,” Nathan explained as he slowly let go of his brothers’ arms. “And then I was trying to get them off each other and David accidently pushed Bentley…”

“Hit my head.” Bentley muttered as he clung to his father’s neck, sniffling as a few more tears fell.

“The three of you know better!” Buffy told them, her hand rubbing soothing circles on Bentley’s back. “And Nathan, you’re supposed to be more responsible and make sure things like this don’t happen.”

“Sorry, Mum.” The three brothers sighed before going back to their previous activities, which meant David and Matt went back to homework while Nathan re-laid the instructions he had been given by Addison’s teachers to her.

“Are you okay, B?” Rupert asked his son, wiping at a stray tear and giving him a small smile.

“Yeah…” he nodded, gingerly rubbing the area that had hit the corner of the table.

Buffy smiled and softly kissed the already formed bump before walking over to the other side of her husband so she could see Bentley. “All better?” she asked.

“Yep!” the boy grinned, giggling as his father set him down on the floor. “Nathan, you wanna play a video game?”

Rupert just shook his head as he sat down on the empty space on the couch, pulling Buffy on to his lap. She leaned her head on his shoulder as they watched Nathan and Bentley play some racing game.

“Jess called today,” Rupert said as he turned his attention to his wife.

“Yeah?”

“Someone contacted her about opening a store in the Woodlands,” a smile pulled at the corner of his mouth when he saw the excitement in Buffy’s eyes. “I told you giving her and Trevor the store was a smart move.”

“That’s great! So that’s what, three locations now?” Buffy asked, her fingers tracing the tattoo on his left bicep.

“Yes. They also wanted to know if we would be up to dinner tonight,” he continued, pausing to help Matt with a math problem he was stuck on. “They want all of us to have dinner at their house. Chris and Blake will be there…”

“Is their house big enough to fit all of us, plus nine children?”

“It is if we all eat in the backyard,” Rupert answered, his hand running up and down her arm. “Plus, Jess said she had some news she wanted to tell all of us.”

“She’s pregnant,” Addison said, her eyes focused on the book she was reading.

“How do you know that?” Buffy turned to look at her stepdaughter, marveling at how similar she was to Rupert.

“I work at the store on the weekends,” the 15 year old stated as she glanced at her parents. “That and I over her telling Trevor a few weeks ago.”

“Looks like Mum isn’t the only one who’s gonna have a baby!” Matt announced as he finished up his homework, sticking out his tongue when David complained about how unfair his homework was.

“What?” Rupert looked at his wife, confusion in his green eyes.

“Matthew, that was supposed to be our secret remember?” Buffy looked at the eight year old.

“Oops.” He winced, tugging at his ear as he looked at his mother. “Sorry,”

“You’re pregnant?” Rupert whispered, shock written on his face.

“You’re having another baby?” Nathan paused the game and turned around to look at them, his expression unreadable.

“I’m gonna be a big brother?” Bentley asked, excitement in his forest green eyes as he looked at his parents over his brother’s shoulder.

“When…what?”

“I found out a few days ago,” Buffy answered as her hand went to rest on her still flat stomach. “Apparently I’m a little over two months.”

The living room was silent as each member of the family took in the information, except for Matt- he moved on to starting his reading assignment since he had already known. Bentley was the first to break the silence when he ran over to his mother and asked her all sorts of questions, which launched the rest of his siblings into being excited for another brother or sister. After the excitement among the siblings had died down, Buffy turned to look at her husband when he still hadn’t said a word.

“Rupert?” she asked, biting her bottom lip as worry set in.

“Hmm?’ his gaze had drifted down to her abdomen, his face clear of any expression.

“Are you okay?” Buffy placed her hand on the side of his neck, bending her head so she could look at him.

“You’re pregnant,” was all he could say, ignoring the muttered comment his children gave. “We’re having another baby.”

“Yeah,” she nodded, fear filling her when he continued to not say a word. “Is that okay with you? I mean, I know six is a lot. And it means another 18 years until we all the kids are out of the house, and…”

Rupert cut her off by leaning forward and kissing her, his hands moving to cradle her face. He laughed against her lips at the gagging noises all five children gave them, Nathan telling them to get a room before him and Bentley went back to playing their game. Buffy just stared at him when he pulled away with a grin on his face.

“You’re seriously okay with this?” she asked.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” he smiled, running his hand through his hair. “Another baby, it’s bloody brilliant!”

Buffy just laughed at seeing the joy on her husband’s face, the excitement from his children finally hitting him. Matt and David laughed at their father’s reaction, Addison immediately telling Buffy how the baby needed to be a girl.

“There are way too many guys in this house, Mum.”

“I know, Addie. I’m hoping for a girl this time,” Buffy agreed, grinning as David and Matt told Rupert that they wanted another brother.

“Dad can’t control that!” Nathan yelled over his shoulder, playfully shoving Bentley when the five year old won the race.

“What?” Buffy asked when she noticed Rupert was staring at her, Addison going back to reading while David and Matt went off to join their brothers.

“I love you, Buffy.” He smiled as he placed his hand on top of the one she had resting on her stomach.

“I love you too, Rupert.” She whispered as she leaned into him and gave him a quick kiss, moving to whisper in his ear. “We can celebrate later once everyone’s asleep.”

“Putting your Slayer stamina to good use, I see. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I never actually became a Watcher.” He chuckled, turning his attention to Bentley when he crawled up on the couch.

Buffy smiled as she watched her husband interact with their youngest child. Thinking back on the past ten years, Buffy was grateful to have out last the Slayer expiration date. Rupert looked at his wife and gave her a smile, his eyes telling her the exact same thing.

Awwww, precious chapter is precious. What a cute family. Speaking of families, you really have a thing for the giant Buffy/Giles family don't you? In a lot of your stories they end up with a whole bunch of kids. Which is awesome because, Daddy Giles is the cutest thing ever. Anyway, perfect ending to a perfect story.
