Title: Your Surrender Author: the_huffster Pairing: Buffy/Giles Rating: R for language and violence Timeline: Season 4 AU Synopsis: Giles has landed a job teaching at UC Sunnydale after defeating the Mayor and Buffy ends up, unknowingly, taking Giles' class. Surely all this extra time together won't affect their relationship, right?

“She probably got caught up patrolling,” Oz said as he fell behind the others to talk to Giles.

“You and I both know that it doesn’t take Buffy six hours to patrol, regardless if it’s a busy night or not.” Giles sighed, running his hand through his hair before turning to face the younger man. “But I appreciate you trying to make me feel better,”

“What are you going to do now?”

“I go home, and reschedule my flight tomorrow morning.” He shrugged at the raised eyebrow Oz gave him. “The fact that Buffy isn’t here clearly tells me something, Oz.”

“You should still tell her before you leave. Buffy deserves to know, Giles.”

With that said, Oz turned and made his way back to the other three. Giles just shook his head and continued towards his car, stopping when he heard his name being called. A soft groan left his lips when he saw Riley Finn walk over, a smirk on his face.

“What were you doing at the Bronze?” the young man asked, his tone suggesting something that Giles didn’t want to think about.

“I was waiting for Buffy,”

“Oh yeah, about that…” Riley gave him a smile as soon as he saw the look that crossed the older man’s face. “She was too exhausted to make it here, if you know what I mean. But don’t worry, I dropped her off at her house. I wasn’t gonna let her walk all by herself at this time of night. Anyways, have a good holiday.”

Giles stood there for a few seconds before quickly walking to his car, trying to stop the images that flashed in his mind at Riley’s words. Once he got the car started, he wanted nothing more than to go back to his apartment and have a few drinks.

“Where were you last night, Buff?” Xander asked as he sat at the table Oz had gotten in the back of the Espresso Pump.

“Something came up,” she mumbled, giving her friends a weak smile.

“I thought you said Giles wasn’t going to be able to make it,” Willow said, giving her best friend a look.

“I wasn’t,” Buffy said before taking a sip of her mocha.

“Well, he was.” The red head raised an eyebrow when Buffy looked up, disbelief on her face.

“And he was looking for you,” Oz added, carefully watching Buffy’s reaction.

“He was?”

“Am I missing something?” Xander asked, wondering what was with the looks Oz and Willow were giving the Slayer before turning to face his girlfriend. “Do you know what’s going on?”

Xander rolled his eyes when Anya ignored him, looking at Buffy and then Willow and Oz. It was a few moments before the ex-demon’s eyes widened in surprise.

“You had sex with Giles.” She looked straight at Buffy, rolling her eyes at the protests Xander was giving.

“What makes you say that?” Buffy tried her best not give anything away.

“Well, you both have been acting strangely around one another. There’s a tension between you two, and not the kind of tension that comes from a major argument.” Anya explained, continuing to ignore her boyfriend. “And ever since last Friday there’s been…something between you. It’s the kind of something that comes from having sex with your friend.”

“How do you know that?” Xander asked, shock written all over his face.

“I used to be a vengeance demon, Xander. I’ve seen a lot of things when it comes to relationships and sex,” she waved him off before returning her attention to the blonde. “So, you slept with Giles at some point this semester and then something else happened last week.”

“He said he was leaving,” Buffy muttered, not wanting to really think about what had happened last week. “I went to the airport last night and when I didn’t see him before his plane took off, I figured he had gotten an earlier or later flight and didn’t tell me.”

She could feel their eyes on her as she focused on the table.

“Well he didn’t because he was at the Bronze, waiting for you.” Willow repeated.

“He’s probably at his apartment,” Oz said. “He told me that he was going to call this morning to book a flight before Christmas.”

Buffy just looked at Willow and Oz, smiling when Oz motioned his head towards his van. Xander and Anya watched as they left the Espresso Pump, confusion still on his face.

“What just happened?” he asked his girlfriend.

“I’ll explain it to you later, Xander.” Anya sighed as she finished her coffee.

Buffy quickly turned around, giving Willow and Oz a slightly terrified look.

“What if he’s gone?” she asked, walking back to Oz’s van. “Or what if he doesn’t wanna talk to me?”

“If you don’t come back out in ten minutes, then we’ll leave.” Willow explained before turning to look at her boyfriend. “Right?”

Oz merely nodded his head and flashed a quick smile at Buffy, while Willow motioned her head toward the apartment complex to encourage her best friend to get moving. The blonde sighed and turned to make her way to her ex-Watcher’s front door.

As soon as she reached the door, she knocked before she could chicken out and head back to Oz’s van. She stood there for a few moments before knocking again and waiting a few more minutes until worry set in. Buffy knew Giles should have answered the door by now, especially since she had knocked and no one he knew knocked. Preparing herself for whatever waited for her on the other side of the door, she tried the door and sighed in relief when it opened easily.

“Giles?” she called out, stopping when she noticed his clothes thrown around the stairs.

She followed the trail of the clothes up to the loft, her eyes narrowing when she saw him sprawled out on the right side of his bed. Her eyes took in the sight of a seemingly naked Giles sleeping on his stomach before noticing the wrinkled sheets on the left side of his bed, her mind telling her that someone else had been sleeping next to him.

“Un-fucking-believable,” she shook her head before turning and heading down the stairs, wanting nothing more than to get far away from the apartment.

“Buffy?” Willow tilted her head when she noticed the tears streaming down her face, quickly hoping out of the van when her best friend continued walking.

Oz raised an eyebrow before exiting his van, giving an understanding smile when his girlfriend motioning to a retreating Buffy. Once the two had disappeared around the corner, the young man made his way to the apartment and walked in.

“Giles?” he called, his eyes drifting up to the loft when he noticed the clothes. “You up?”

“No,” a groggy voice sounded from the loft before the sound of movement was heard. “Give me a minute.”

Oz leaned against the arm of the couch as he waited for the older man to walk downstairs. He didn’t have to wait long before Giles came down in only a pair of green boxers, his hand tiredly running through his hair.

“I thought I heard Buffy a few minutes ago,” he muttered as he looked around the living room.

“You did,” Oz confirmed. “I don’t know what happened, but she pretty much stormed off down the street, crying.”

Giles just stared at Oz, not entirely sure what he was talking about. It must have shown on his face because the younger man just shrugged before continuing.

“She didn’t say what happened but I’m guessing she jumped to the wrong conclusions when she saw your clothes,” he looked down at the floor before motioning with his head to Giles. “And what you wore to sleep in.”

“Why would it matter to her?” Giles rolled his eyes before making his way to the kitchen, pouring orange juice into an empty glass.

“We told her you were waiting at the Bronze for her,” Oz replied, taking a seat at the breakfast bar. “If she did assume that you had a one night stand last night, it gives her a reason to be upset.”

“But why? She was with Riley anyways,” he practically growled as he drank half of his juice. “What I chose to do with my sex life doesn’t concern her.”

“It does of she waited at the airport for you instead of going to the Bronze, and if she told Riley to never talk to her again for whatever it was he said to you.” A small smirk came to Oz’s face when he saw the shocked look on the older man’s face. “I don’t know what she feels for you, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s more than friendship if she gets this upset at the idea of you sleeping with someone else.”

Giles just stared at the younger man, no words coming to mind. His first reaction was to protest what Oz had told him, but he couldn’t bring himself to try and justify why none of what OZ had said was true.

“You should go after her,”

“Pardon?” Giles asked, shaking his head as he came out of his thoughts.

“Go after Buffy. Tell her how you feel,” Oz suggested. “You should probably put some clothes on first, and then go to her house and tell her everything.”

“I can’t…” he shook his head, finishing his orange juice.

“Why?”

“She’s half my age, how would that look?” Giles rubbed the back of his neck as he leaned against the counter behind him.

“If people don’t like it, fuck ‘em.” A smirk appeared on his face at the surprised expression Giles gave him. “If you guys are happy, it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. It’s not society that you’d be dating, it’d be Buffy.”

“True, but what Joyce? Or you and the others?”

“Buffy’s mom will come around eventually, and we can’t really judge your relationship.” He shrugged at the curious look Giles gave him. “I’m a werewolf who’s dating a Wicca, and Xander’s dating an ex-vengeance demon. You would have the most normal relationship out of us.”

Giles just stood there as he thought over everything, before looking at Oz and giving him a subtle nod. Without saying a word, the ex-Watcher ran out the kitchen and up to the loft to freshen up as quickly as he could. Five minutes later, Giles was back downstairs and Oz just held up his keys.

“I’ll drive you to her house,”

Yeah, spending way too much time with my theatre peeps. Anyway, loved it. Can't wait for the next chapter... Wait, did Buffy see Giles naked and run away? I totally would've hopped in bed with him.
