Giles didn’t even wait for Oz to completely stop the van before he bolted from the passenger seat, running to the front door. He pounded on the door and waited a bit impatiently for someone to answer it. After a moment of waiting, he knocked again and looked over his shoulder when he heard Oz chuckle.
“What’s so funny?” he asked, his eyes narrowed in confusion.
“It’s unlocked,” Oz stated as he moved past the older man and opened the door, smirking at his expression. “Willow’s over here and Buffy’s mom is at the gallery.’
“How did you know that?” Giles followed him into the house, closing the door behind him.
“Buffy left your apartment in tears, no woman wants to cry in public over a guy.” The young man motioned up stairs when Giles just stood in front of the door.
Giving Oz a small smile of thanks, Giles made his way up the stairs and towards Buffy’s room. Her bedroom door was closed and he felt an onslaught of nerves take over him. There was a good chance that he was about to make a fool of himself but if what Oz had told him was true, then he didn’t mind looking like an idiot for a few moments. Taking a deep breath, he carefully knocked on the door before pushing it open.
“Buffy?” he asked as he slowly entered the room, his heart breaking at the sight of the Slayer leaning against Willow as tears made their way down her cheeks.
“Go away, Giles.” She mumbled as she moved to try her best to hide in her pillows.
“Buffy, we need to talk.” His eyes met Willow’s, a small smile on his face when he saw the understanding in her eyes.
Without saying word, the redhead got to her feet and made her way to the door. Giles nodded when he read the silent question in the Wicca’s eyes, shaking his head at the quiet squeal she gave. He continued to stand there for a few more minutes before he moved to lean against her dresser, his hands shoved in his pockets while he focused on the carpet.
“Buffy…” he sighed once the silence had gotten to him.
“I don’t wanna talk to you, Giles.” Buffy cut him off, swiping at the few tears that continued to fall as she glared at him.
“Why? What did I possibly do to you?” he asked, raising his head to look at her.
“You slept without someone else,”
“Why does that matter to you, Buffy?” he ran his hand through his hair as he continued to look at her, sighing when she didn’t answer. “You get mad at me when I try to sleep with you, and you get mad at the thought of me sleeping with someone else. And you just assume that I had someone else in my bed…”
“It wasn’t an assumption, Giles! I saw the evidence with my own eyes,” she cut him off, jumping to her feet as she stared at him.
“No, you jumped to conclusions.” He pushed himself off the dresser and shook his head. “You didn’t bother to find out what had really happened,”
“I know what happened,” she crossed her arms over her chest, her eyes never leaving his. “You wanted one last good fuck, so went to the Bronze looking for me. I wasn’t there, so you picked the first skank that you found…”
“No! I went to the Bronze looking for you but you never showed up. I ran into Riley on my way out and he told me that you had been with him all night,” Giles informed her, trying to keep his voice as even as possible. “I went home and got drunk. That was it, Buffy. You walked in this morning, saw my drunken impatience to get to bed and jumped to conclusions. But nothing happened.”
They stood looking at each other, Buffy searching Giles’ eyes for any sign that he was lying.
“Why did you miss your flight?” she asked, shaking her head when she saw the look on his face. “I mean, why did you go looking for me at the Bronze?”
“Because some things are more important,” he answered as he took a step towards her, reaching out to brush away a stray tear. “Were you with Riley?”
She shook her head, not really sure how she was going to tell him the real reason she hadn’t been at the Bronze. Buffy was saved from having to give him an answer when Giles moved his hands to cradle her face, claiming her lips with his. Her hands went to the back of his head, her fingers running through his hair as she backed up to her bed.
“Giles…” she moaned softly when he began trailing kisses down her neck as he covered her body with his. “Wait…Giles, stop.”
“What?” he asked, lifting his head up to look at her.
“I can’t do this if you’re just going to take off, or go sleep with someone else.” Buffy sighed, her fingers continuing to run through the hair at the nape of his neck. “I can’t do that again.”
“Why?” he bent down and placed a gentle kiss on her shoulder, his hands slowly moving under her shirt.
“Because you’re the stupid prick that you wanna hurt,” she flashed him a grin when his eyes snapped to hers, his eyes wide with understanding.
“You mean…this whole time you’ve been talking about this bloke that you’re in love with…” he swallowed as he continued to look at her, shaking his head when he saw the smile in her hazel eyes. “You love me?”
“Yeah, I do.” She nodded her head as one of her hands moved to rest against his chest. “Which is why sleeping with you the first time, knowing it didn’t mean the same thing to you, killed me.”
“I’m not going to leave you, Buffy. Nor will I run off and sleep with someone else,” he assured her, smiling softly at the hesitance in her eyes. “And I’m not just saying that to sleep with you. I mean, I want to sleep with you but not as a one night stand.”
“I don’t do friends with benefits either, Giles.” She interrupted him, giving him a glare.
“Either do I,” he mumbled as he bent down and kissed her again, quickly removing her shirt. “I want to sleep with you because I love you. I’ve always loved you, it just took having drunken sex with you for me to realize it.”
“You’re not just saying that?” Buffy questioned as she began tugging his shirt over his head, kissing his sternum.
“I don’t take those words lightly, Buffy.” He answered as he unclasped her bra, grinning as he placed a kiss on her collarbone. “I’m completely in love with you, Buffy Summers.”
He had punctuated each word with a kiss as he made his way down her torso, quickly undoing the button of her jeans before pulling them, along with her panties, down. He stood next to the bed and looked down at her nude form, a grin on his face as he took her in. Buffy just smiled before tugging him closer to her by a belt loop.
“See something you like?” she asked as she sat up, undoing his pants before pulling them down.
Giles just growled before he pushed down his boxers and returned to the bed, settling himself between the Slayer’s thighs. Buffy giggled as he playfully nipped at her neck, groaning when she lightly tugged on his earlobe.
“Giles, as amazing as you are at foreplay,” Buffy began, smiling up at him.
“We can skip it?” he finished for her, chuckling when she nodded. “Let me just…”
He reached over the side of the bed and fished around for his jeans, grinning when he found the foil packet in his pocket. At Buffy’s expression, he tilted his head to the side.
“Why do you have a condom in your pocket?” she plucked the packet from his hand before opening it and handing it back to him.
“I may have been hoping that our conversation would lead to this,” he answered as he rolled the condom on, giving her a grin before slowly entering her. “Seems I was right,”
“Oh God,” she clutched at his shoulders as he began moving, baring her throat to him when she felt his lips on her neck. “Is it better?”
“Better than…what?” Giles asked as he lifted his head to look at her, slightly changing the pace of his thrusts and smiling at the response it coaxed from Buffy.
“Than our first time?” she gasped when he quickly flipped them over, her hands going to his chest to keep her balance. “I mean, is there…oh God…is there a difference now that…that you’re sober? Yes! Right there, Giles!”
“It is so much better,” he groaned as her right hand curled, her nails scraping against his nipple. “Buffy…”
He couldn’t help the grin that spread on his face as she rode him, his hands resting on her hips. Giles could tell she was close, and he concentrated on waiting for her. He didn’t have long to wait, quickly sitting up and covering her mouth with his when she screamed her release. They both groaned at the change of angle, the ex-Watcher flipping Buffy on to her back as he kept thrusting through her climax.
“Christ, I love you.” He groaned, gently biting her shoulder.
“Giles…” Buffy moaned as she felt the beginning of another orgasm, biting her lip to stifle the much louder moan when he hooked his arm under her knee and changed the angle once more. “Don’t…don’t stop,”
“Wasn’t planning on to, love.” Giles claimed her mouth in a passionate kiss, swallowing her cries as she went over and took his with her.
He gradually slowed his thrusts, chuckling at her sound protest when he pulled away from her. He removed the used condom and slipped on his boxers, coming back a few minutes later once the latex was disposed of. Buffy quickly removed his boxers once more when he had slipped under the covers next to her.
“So,” she whispered as she turned on her side to face him, running her fingers through his hair.
“So,” he repeated as he moved his hand to rest on her hip.
“What happens now, Giles?”
“Well we get dressed, tell our friends about us and then I take you out to dinner.” Giles began, leaning forward to gently kiss her. “And then we can either come back here and tell Joyce about us, or we go back to my flat. Personally, I’d rather go back to my flat and catch up on the time we’ve missed…”
“There’s an us?” Buffy cut him off, her eyes wide in shock.
“Do you not want there to be?” worry flashed in his green eyes at her words.
“I do, but…you said you didn’t want a relationship.” Buffy explained, moving her hand to res on his chest. “That was why you had one night stands,”
“True, but that was also before I knew I was in love with you.” Giles said as his hand trailed up and down her side. “To be quite honest, sex with someone who isn’t you just won’t do anymore. So the only logical thing to do is have a relationship with the woman I’m in love with.”
“Makes sense to me, Watcher-mine.” Buffy grinned as she gently pushed him on to his back, leaning over him as she kissed him.
When he felt her hand make its way down his abdomen, he quickly grabbed her wrist and smiled up at her.
“As much as I would love to go another round,” he kissed her neck before looking up at her. “I only brought one. And besides, I don’t exactly want to be in the middle of explicit activities when your mother returns home.”
Buffy just rolled her eyes as she pushed herself up and left the bed, slowly redressing as she looked at Giles. He just shook his head and followed her lead, pausing in putting his shirt back on to place a kiss on Buffy’s lips. Five minutes after they had left the bed, the couple walked downstairs to find Willow and Oz sitting on the front porch.
"We figured we’d let you two talk it out in private,” Willow said as she stood up once the front door opened.
“Everything good?” Oz asked, taking in the smiles on their faces.
“Yep,” Buffy answered as she moved to Giles’ side, placing a quick kiss in the middle of his chest when he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
“Everything’s perfect,” Giles looked down at Buffy and couldn’t help but grin.
Oz and Willow smiled as they watched the soft kiss their friends shared.
