Synopsis: After giving up his life as Ripper, Giles seizes the chance to live a normal life and doesn't return to the Council. But years later when he meets first grade teacher Buffy Summers, he wonders if it's possible to really escape Destiny.
Author's Note: I decided to mess around with the years and make Giles younger just so it will fit with how I have this fic planned out. So please bear with me on the messing with years/ages.
For the past week it seemed whenever Rupert tried to talk to Buffy, something always prevented that. The latest reason involved Nathan breaking his arm after he had fallen out of the tree in the front yard, effectively cutting his father’s walk next door short. Rupert was thinking of an excuse to approach the blonde as he pushed the lawn mower back into the garage when he heard a loud curse off to his left. A small smile pulled at the corner of his mouth when he saw Buffy struggling to get her weed whacker working.
“Need help?” he asked as he walked over to her, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jean shorts.
“I have freaking super strength, and I can’t even get this stupid thing to work!” Buffy huffed before looking at Rupert, her look turning into a glare when she saw him. “But I can get it,”
He stood there as he watched her struggle with the weed whacker, biting back his chuckle when she just held it out to him. He took it but didn’t try and start it, instead he took a deep breath as he tried to ignore the sudden nervousness that had washed over him.
“Buffy, I…” he began, running his free hand through his sweat dampened hair.
“How’s Nathan doing?” she cut him off, her focus on the grass she had to cut soon.
“He’s fine, although he does complain about how itchy his cast makes his arm.” Rupert answered as he watched her study the grass. “But he’s learned to not try and hang upside down from tree branches, at least I hope he has.”
“Well, he’s a boy.” They shared a brief laugh before the teacher motioned to her weed whacker. “You going to start that for me?”
“Hmmm? Oh, right.” He shook his head as he went to start the machine, stopping when he remembered what he had been wanting to say. “I’m sorry, Buffy.”
“What?”
“When I found out you were the Slayer, I, um…I panicked and…” he just shrugged when he couldn’t find the right words to explain himself. “I was scared. Finding out you were the Slayer, it terrified me.”
“Great,” Buffy rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms over her chest. “I scare men away,”
“No, you being the Slayer wasn’t what scared me. The idea that I…” he paused and recollected his thoughts before continuing. “The idea that I could lose you so soon, the fact that Slayers don’t live very long…it terrified me because I have no idea how I’m going to handle your death. Add in the fact that you are the closest thing to a mother my children have had since the divorce…I just…I panicked and did the one thing I’ve always been good at. I fucked up and ran,”
Buffy just looked at him, giving him the chance to explain himself.
“And the other night, when I said those things…as I said, I’m an expert in fucking up.” Rupert sighed as he glanced up from the pavement to see her looking at him. “I just…I’m sorry, Buffy. I still love you, and I just want to get back to what we had before all of this.”
“I love you too, Rupert, but I’m not going to just pretend like you didn’t hurt me and get back together with you.” She explained, pushing back a stray strand of hair. “It’s not that easy,”
“What do you suggest?” he asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
“We start over, and work from there.” She giggled at the confused expression on his face, shaking her head as she walked over to him. “Hi, I’m Buffy Summers. I teach first graders, moved here from Sunnydale, California and I’m almost the Slayer.”
Rupert chuckled as he took the hand she held out and shook it, a grin on his face.
“Nice to meet you, Buffy Summers.” He replied as he let go of her hand. “I’m Rupert Giles, I’m a divorced single father and I was supposed to be a Watcher, destined to be one as my father said, until I ran away from that.”
“Niceto meet you, Rupert Giles.” The blonde laughed.
“I’d ask you out to dinner tonight, but I’m afraid I need a shower right now. And I don’t want to ask you out while I smell,” Rupert said, running his hand through his hair.
“Well if you promise to take a shower between now and seven tonight, I think I could do dinner with you.”
A grin spread across his face at her answer as he promised to be showered by then. Sharing one more smile, Rupert went to try and start up her weed whacker. After a few minutes, he gave a shout of victory before he carefully handed it over to the blonde.
“I’ll see you at seven!” Buffy shouted over the noise.
Rupert just smiled before making his way back to his house. He was just about to walk up the stairs when Addison’s voice stopped him.
“Why are you smiling, Daddy?” she asked as her and Nathan looked at him.
“Because I’m in a good mood, Princess.” Rupert answered as he leaned against the banister.
“How come?” Nathan asked, trying to keep his right hand busy and not itch under his cast.
“Well, I have a date tonight.” His grin grew when he saw the worry on his children’s faces. “I’m going to dinner with Buffy tonight,”
“You guys made up?” Addison asked, her eyes going wide in excitement.
“Yes we did,”
“About time!” Nathan cheered, laughing when Addison jumped off the couch and did a little dance before he joined her.
“As much as I want to join in your little dance party,” Rupert laughed as he watched the siblings. “I need to shower.”
“Yeah, you smell Daddy!” Addison giggled.
Rupert just shook his head and walked up the stairs, grinning when he heard his children talking excitedly.

“I have to ask,” Buffy said as she watched Rupert walked back from the kitchen. “Why did you send your kids to stay with Chris and Blake?”
“One, Nathan and Addison wanted to see the baby.” Rupert explained as he sat back down, stealing a piece of orange chicken from her plate. “And two, I just wanted it to be us tonight.”
“Why? I’ve eaten dinner at your house enough times with the two munchkins around,” she leaned over and stole a piece of his sushi. “What makes tonight so special?”
“Well, I don’t want my seven year old son and five year old daughter to hear us.” He just smirked at the look she gave him.
“What makes you think you’re getting lucky tonight?” Buffy leaned forward, resting her chin in one of her hands as she stared at her boyfriend.
“This,”
At the confused look she gave him, Rupert just smiled and placed a velvet box on the tabletop. Buffy let out a small gasp as he opened the box to show an engagement ring inside. Her eyes never left the ring when he carefully removed it and held it between his thumb and index finger.
“I’m rather sure you know what I’m about to ask, Buffy.” He whispered as he moved to kneel beside her chair.
“And I think you know what I’m gonna say,” she smiled as she let him slip the ring on her finger. “I love you, Rupert.”
“I love you too, Buffy.” He leaned up and kissed her, smiling against her lips as she deepened the kiss. “Now, about me getting lucky?”
Buffy rolled her eyes as she pulled him to his feet and followed him up the stairs, her eyes glued to the simple diamond that rested on her left ringer finger. Her attention was only taken from the ring when Rupert began kissing her neck as he worked his hands under her shirt.
“I’m engaged,” Buffy marveled as she started unbuttoning his shirt, placing a kiss on his chest. “You proposed to me.”
“I’m well aware of what I did, love.” He chuckled as he lifted her shirt over her head, bending down to kiss her again.
The blonde smiled up at him as they began undressing each other, the bedroom filling with giggles as Rupert swept Buffy into his arms and laid her in the middle of his bed. He smiled at her before lowering his mouth to her collarbone, inwardly smiling when she let out a moan as he worked two fingers into her. He chuckled when she protested after he removed his fingers a few minutes later, Buffy’s protest being cut off as she watched he licked his fingers.
“If I wasn’t so close, I’d push you on your back and do that thing with my tongue you like so much.” Buffy gasped as Rupert slowly entered her, her hands gripping his shoulders when he began to move. “But I’ll settle for giving you a blowjob later. This feels too good right now,”
Rupert just kissed her for an answer as he picked up the pace, groaning when she raked her nails down his back. Buffy arched her hips and moaned at the change of angle, her legs wrapping around his waist as he continued to thrust into her.
“You proposed to me,” she said before kissing his neck, gently biting him.
“You’re going to marry me,” Rupert bent his head and placed a kiss on her shoulder before he rolled them so she was on top, his hands resting on her hips.
“Why do you love it when I’m top?” she leaned forward until he took one of her nipples between his teeth. “Oh God,”
Rupert continued his ministrations before giving the other nipple the same attention, grinning at the sounds it produced from Buffy. He let go of the hard peak and watched as his fiancée rode him, the change in her breathing telling him she was about to orgasm. As soon as he recognized her approaching climax, Buffy dug her nails into his chest and threw her head back as she screamed his name. He quickly flipped her on to her back and picked up her pace even more, hooking his arm under her knee.
“Don’t…don’t stop,” Buffy gasped as she met his thrusts.
Rupert just chuckled as he latched his mouth on to her neck. No words were spoken as he brought Buffy to another climax, following her as the feel of her inner walls gripping his thrusting cock. He rolled on to his side and just stared at her, his fingers making their way to her clit.
“Rupert…” she moaned as he teased the bundle of nerves.
“I plan on getting as little sleep as possible,” he told her, grinning as she arched her hips to tell him she needed more. “I love you,”
“Love you, too…” her hands gripped the sheets as he slid two fingers into her, automatically finding that one spot that made her scream. “Can’t believe…you wanna marry me,”
“And I can’t believe you took me back,” he whispered as he leaned over and began trailing kisses down her torso. “But right now, there’s something else that I want to be doing other than discuss what we can and can’t believe.”
Buffy just laughed as she agreed with him. After all, they had the rest of their lives to discuss their beliefs with each other.
